Before they head out for summer camp at Mitigwa Scout
Reservation,
the Scouts and leaders of Troop 520 pose for a photo
in front of the Jewell Scouthouse.
Two Scouts who will make this
tent their camping home at Camp Mitigwa
arrange their materials brought
from home.
Scouts will spend one week with sleeping bags on cots and other materials stored beneath the cots.
Although the Troop Flag says Troop 20, the uniforms now say Troop 520. (See in the photo above this one.)
Scouts who are swimmers may practice canoeing skills on the Mitigwa Lake.
Those Scouts who have received training about operating a canoe, will take a river canoe adventure trip.
Canoes have been unloaded and readied for the afternoon Des Moines River trip.
The fun canoe trip is finished.
1990 Klondike Derby
One patrol of Scouts has constructed their sled for the Klondike Derby race.
Troop 520 entered two sleds into the 1990 Klondike Derby competition.
Two photos showing a Klondike Derby sled from a different year.
In 1977, several military 3/4-ton M37 4x4 Cargo Trucks were converted into U. S. Forest Service Fire Tanker vehicles by painting them red and equiping them with 150 gallon water tanks. One which served for rural fire control in Iowa became "Federal excess property" and was purchased for use by South Hamilton's Troop 520.
